Science says that the speed of light is the maximum speed. I wonder, if the photons can not escape from a black hole because even with the speed of light you can not escape the gravity of a black hole, and yet from black holes there is some kind of matter and energy expelled or escaping the gravity which means it takes more than speed of light to get out from a black hole. So it is possible that the speed of light we know is not the maximum speed. I think it is possible that some matter can travel ten times the known speed of light.

I believe this is a simulation. I don't believe in a particular model. It could be subjective, stemming from the brain, or objective meaning scientific observations such as the big bang and evolution still all took place regardless of humanity. It seems more logical that our reality is merely information, and the reason we perceive this information to be 'real' is because our pain receptors give us a sense of connection with the external. The same could be said with emotion, tying belief and faith to our logic and understanding. These things are just electrical signals in the brain, yet we perceive them as a 'feeling'. I find it easy to visualise an Earth, with all of its mass, steadily hovering and orbiting in a fabric of multidimensional spacetime, but truly comprehending such a thing often feels unrealistic. As if, it shouldn't be accounted for as a possibility if mass is a physical concept like we think it is. There are many comparisons you can make regarding an information based universe. If you think of a compact disc, that disc holds both a beginning and an end. Yet if you were to locate what happened before it you couldn't. (Big bang) There is a problem in quantum mechanics called 'quantum entanglement'. If you think about how messages are sent and received instantaneously through computer networks, you can draw a comparison there. The list continues and if you think about it hard enough seems endless... Does anybody else share this opinion? Or, would like to input their own view on mine...

In considering models and the parameter inputs that are input into the model, we noted that the input for the rate of others infected by someone with the virus, such as 2-3 people, vs 5-6 persons infected affects the total infected persons over time, Professor Tyson said the model changed; the model did not change but by changing one of the model’s parameters changes the end outcome of the model. The result has changed, but the model remained the same; only the input variables (2-3 vs 5-6) has changed and the end outcomes.d

Making a prediction is giving your opinion beforehand therefore not being able to change the narrative to suit your agenda. Telling a story is done after the fact and that narrative is susceptible to embellishment or change. Just thought it was very relatable to their archer drawing the bullseye analogy hah

Excuse me everybody, I'm not here not as a regular viewer of the podcast but rather as I'm looking for a response to a MNmemory called "Human Zoos: America's Forgotten History of Scientific Racism". I'm a Neil degrasse Tyson fan and a believer in science and peer review process. I just watched a video called "Human Zoos: America's Forgotten History of Scientific Racism" that has knocked me for a loop. It tells the story of how Eugenics and Social Darwinism was a world wide consensus view by the scientific elite of the late 19th and early 20th century. Darwin's son and brother were supporters of these racist ideas. The extent to which the scientific community participated blows me away. How its been hidden in history does as well. I firmly believe in science. What happened?

Ok, based on what I've learned in chemistry and physics, I'm going to answer before the video is finished. The atmosphere only allows long waves to enter and exit, while shorter waves can't exit. Blue is the shortest next to violet (we cant see ultraviolet rays), so blue wavelengths can't leave. Light is produced as white light from the sun, so that's where the blue comes from. Theres more to it than that, but that's the basic premise. Ok, I got most of it. However, I was basing my hypothesis based on UV rays and not light rays (idk if it makes a difference). So, instead of the light coming in and not bring able to leave, the blue earrings hit the earth and scatter while the longer wavelengths of colour start to reflect back away from earth. So I'd say that my chemistry and physics teachers didn't fail me :D

Problem with Brian's statement that religion is useful to understand your place in universe is that religion then encourages the tribal mentality, that's how we get sexism, racism and every problem because of the differences in the world, religions are the root of it. Religions condition the brain for tribal behaviour(us vs them), they do make you feel special about your place in the world but at the same time it makes you closed off to accept any scientific fact that would challenge your "special place" in the universe.

To get to the alternative school to do independent study or any other , a student has to drop out first. The school looses money if u drop out. What if Rick was a creature born in a different multiverse, who had a different level, perspective, and understanding of science and the way things interact and because he was born in a different multiverse. Using the multiverse theory proposed in the previous R&M episode stating that multiple big bangs could have happened and that each multiverse had different starting points and that each multiverse could have different laws of physics. So because Rick was born into a different multiverse and because physics works different in his multiverse he is able to interact with dark matter differently because the laws of physics act differently there. This could also make sense because of Rick's constant toying with the word human, he's a different creature born in a different multiverse who happens to look like a 'human'.

Technically, Earth is traveling far faster than most people think it it. It's traveling around the sun, which is traveling around the calactic center, which is being pulled by the great attractor, possibly further onward being pulled by something else. What Flat Earthers fail to comprehend is that the earth, everything on and around it, have been traveling this fast for quite some time now, and unless a massive change occurs that could stop the earth, everything will remain in that path for quite some time afterwards. The Main thing Flat Earthers can't understand is GRAVITY, they want there to be some other force keeping everything tied to the planet, because in their minds once something leaves the surface, even 5mm, it should be disconnected from its Gravity Well. It's that part they can't understand that makes them think the earth is flat. Figure out how to make a skeptic believe in gravity, and the rest of their model falls appart.' The Other issue is the Bible. Those books were written by people who believed Science was part of the devil's plot to something something something, evil stuff. The fact that the Hebrew Bible says the earth is covered by a dome covered in the Aether, was sheer hypothesis of the era; the christian bible even claiming that the Earth is no greater than 6000 years old, when it was written in the 1300s. (Would that make earth over 6700 Years old, or are we to believe the earth sits forever in a parallel timeline of itself where the Earth was created 6000 years ago, today?) There is a very eaasy way to test these myths today: Take a very long rope and two boats, drag that rope across the entirety of Antartica (Without breaking anything you idiots...) If the world is flat, you've just caused worldwide devistation with your 38k mile long rope, possibly killing thousands and beheading a few giraffes. If not, please forget about the world being flat accept antartica is a solitude continent and not holding up all the water on the planet from pouring inhades, and quit trying to scare people with your mental incapacity to understand 3rd grade physics. (Physics is hard, it's not just you. But most people just deal with the fact they have no real understanding of what E=MC^2 means, and just get on with their day.)

I often wonder if there is a possibility that the gravitational effects of virtual particles in intergalactic space might contribute to what we observe dark matter/energy: I'd be interested to know: if in the incredible vacuum of intergalactic space, if reduced destructive interference from neighboring particles to the virtual particles would affect the probability amplitude for virtual particles at all. Of course, this is half related to the 'worst prediction in the history of physics' so...

I usually don't disagree with Neil, but involving gravity to assign where space begins makes no sense at all. Just look at the word "space". It basically means emptiness. That has nothing to do with gravity, only to do with density of matter. Invent a new term if you want to involve gravity.

i love the "bubble universe" theory. how each black hole is itself a contained universe. and each universe that gets created adjusts the cosmological constants from parent universe to daughter universe slightly allowing a universal scale of evolution to explain how the constants seem so fine tuned to support life. they in theory are that finely tuned because the properties all the way down to the amount of each atoms present to properly support life are also the properties required to best produce black holes. witch makes sense, the parent universe with the best ability to make daughter universes, will create the most universes with its "cosmological constant DNA" if you will. i love this theory so much. it's one of the theories i think of the most when i look at the sky. the idea of this universe wasn't so perfectly put together for us but for its ability to make more universes, and life is just a happy little byproduct along for the ride. it's humbling.
